Flower in Ink Illustration

Brief:
Whenever I have creative art block, I like to create little concepts for standalone illustrations as a warm up exercise to get me back into making.

Concept:

The concept of this was to look at objects around my home and paint them as though each shape was a 2d shape. It was really strange to draw but fun to ink. I created shade without even looking at the real object so it was way more abstract than usual.

I used coloured inks and alcohol-based markers, (Promarkers).

Solution:
I made a few of these illustrations a few years ago during my Foundation year, after finding them again, I'd love to try something similar.

'My Dad Is An Alien' Children's Storybook

Working illustration taken from, 'My Dad's an Alien', illustrated by Shannon Woodfield.

Brief:
I'm currently working on a self-negotiated brief, I'm writing and illustrating a book for an age group of 6-9 years.

Concept:
The book, 'My Dad's An Alien' is a storybook designed to be used as a tool to open up the conversation of absent fathers for young children.

Solution:
Children with absent parents can be affected in many ways, with children with absent fathers specifically, more likely to struggle in their schooling, have behavioural issues and are even more prone to ill-health and chronic pain. Although the situation itself is out of our hands, I wanted to create a story to bridge that gap to create a conversation and aid to resolve issues of feeling unwanted or unloved in a young child's mind.
